Smart Plan is a registration and degree planning tool designed to help map out students’ college paths in real time using one interface. It’s a great way to explore different academic possibilities with your advisor and see how changing majors, minors, and courses affect your pathway to graduation. One easy-to-use, dynamic platform replaces tasks you’ve previously had to manage separately through the UNCG Catalog, UNCGenie, Schedule Hero, and DegreeWorks. And it lets you plot more than one semester at a time, giving you an even better picture of where your UNCG degree path can take you.

Smart Plan allows you to create one or multiple plans, so you can explore different options such as minors, changing majors, adding or dropping different courses, and how they each would impact your time to graduation. You can choose to activate any of your plans once you decide your best way forward.
Smart Plan connects directly with Degree Works to give you a seamless advising and registration experience. Smart Plan uses your official degree progress and completed requirements stored in Degree Works to make sure every plan you build reflects your current academic record and catalog year. This means you’ll always know exactly what you’ve completed and what’s left to finish.
With this foundation, Smart Plan lets you design, adjust, and visualize your entire degree path over multiple semesters all the way to graduation. You can explore “what if?” options such as changing majors, adding minors, or shifting course timing, and immediately see how those choices affect your time to graduation.
Schedule Hero then helps you turn your Smart Plan into action by selecting real-time course sections that fit your schedule once registration opens.
Together, these three tools create a connected system that simplifies planning and registration, giving you and your advisor more time to focus on your goals, strengths, and career interests, not just picking classes.
Smart Plan is designed to help make advising and course selection easier for both students and advisors. You’ll still need to go through the typical advising process, but Smart Plan gives you the ability to make some changes to your action plan without going through your advisor. To set your Official Plan once you’ve evaluated all your options, you’ll need your advisor’s official signoff.
Yes. Smart Plan can automatically adjust the plan if a student is placed on academic probation or warning, and even make tailored recommendations to help students improve their academic standing and get back on track.
