UNCG works with a third party vendor to print, package, and ship diplomas each semester to students who have earned a degree. The cost of the original diploma is covered by the graduation fee.

Please allow up to 12 weeks from the graduation date for your diploma to arrive.

Where is the diploma mailed?

UNCG diplomas are mailed to the student’s official address as it is listed in their graduation application. This address should be a place where the student can receive mail up to three months after graduating.

If a student needs to make a change to their address after their graduation application has been submitted, they should email degreeclearance@uncg.edu before the last day of classes.

What is printed on the diploma?

Diplomas show the student’s official name and degree type.

The student’s full legal name (as we have it in our system) will appear on their diploma. If the student wants their name to appear differently than the name on file with the University, they can use the following forms:

To request an official name change, submit an official name change request.

To add or change a preferred first name, submit a preferred first name request.

For other variations in name, contact Degree Clearance Services to determine which form or documentation needs to be submitted.

TIP: Special Characters – Students with characters like hyphens or accent marks should state exactly what the special character is and where it should be placed in your name. Please be as specific as possible.

NOTE: Majors, concentrations, and minors are not printed on the undergraduate diploma, in accordance with University policy; this information does appear on the student’s official academic transcript.

How big is the diploma?

The undergraduate diploma measures 8.5 x 11; graduate diploma is 11 x 14.

Requesting a replacement or duplicate diploma

Students can request an additional diploma if they have lost their original diploma or if they need a duplicate for employment purposes.

Degree Clearance Services

Notary services for UNCG diplomas and transcripts can usually be provided upon request during business hours. To ensure the office is staffed with the appropriate officials, the service should be requested at the time the replacement/duplicate diploma and/or transcript is made. More information can be found in the following links regarding notary, apostille, and true-copy authentication documents.

Diploma Accuracy

Students are encouraged to review their diploma upon receipt and contact the Office of the Registrar immediately to report any errors. If you do not receive your diploma within three months of the end of the term, contact the Office of the Registrar immediately to let us know.

Students may be eligible to receive a courtesy replacement of an original diploma due to non-receipt of diploma, printing error, or damage to the diploma during shipping. Please contact degreeclearance@uncg.edu.

Errors that result from late or incorrect name or address changes will require the student to order a duplicate diploma and pay the corresponding fee. Diplomas reported as not received more than six months after the graduation term will be treated as a reorder and will also require the student to order a duplicate diploma and pay the corresponding fee.
